List of Edgefest Lineups - Wikipedia

When I’ve looked at the lists of past Edgefest lineups (or in this case, CFNY Canada Day concerts), this is the one I’ve often said that I wished I could travel back in time to go see. (Next on my list is the August 1995 Edgefest 3 show, but if I could travel in time, I’d also make the weather better that day).

I just got home from seeing The Grapes of Wrath at the Starlight. I recall making a comment sometime in my earlier university days, which means somewhere probably 11-13 years ago that if I ever had the chance, I’d love to see the Northern Pikes and The Grapes of Wrath. I managed to see the the Northern Pikes back in 1999, so when I was looking at the upcoming list of concerts and saw The Grapes of Wrath, I knew I’d have to be there.

It occurred to me early on that maybe I’ll never be able to travel back in time, but as of now, I’ve seen more than half the bands on that list. Sure, it’s taken a good, what, 15 or 16 years to see those six bands, and I’ve seen a few on that list many times, and a few only once or twice, but I’m pretty fortunate.

The original title of the post was “The Box need to reunite and tour”. Then I looked it up, and they actualy play in Quebec a few times a year. But I’m lazy. So they need to come to Waterloo, and The Pursuit of Happiness also need to play a few more shows. The other bands I can live without.

I’m not quite sure how many more bands are on my “must see live” list. I don’t know if it’s the collapse of CD sales, or just boredom, or what, but I don’t complain when a band gets back together to make some money touring. Hell, I’ve seen the Pixies twice. Who thought that would ever be possible? Other than The Talking Heads which I can’t imagine will ever happen, I guess there’s Daft Punk and Tegan & Sara on my list, but those are still active artists.

Anyways, it was a good show tonight. They’re playing Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa and London in the days ahead, and they don’t sound like they’ve been apart in various combinations for 18 years.

EDIT (Oct 3, 2011): I just realized I saw The Pursuit of Happiness at the Kumbaya Festival in 1995. Time to start planning that trip to Québec I guess.
